Young Fortune

This girl was reading her fortune at the Sensoji Temple (also known as Asakusa Kannon Temple), a Buddhist temple located in Asakusa, Tokyo.

There is a ritual process to follow to obtain your fortune. Firstly you have to pay, usually 100 yen, which is about 50 UK pence or 1 US Dollar, then you must shake a container which is filled with long sticks (which resemble chop sticks) and has a small hole in the top. Once shaken you turn the container upside down to allow a stick to fall out of the small hole. Each stick has a number written on it ( in Japanese obviously ) and then you must find the corresponding numbered drawer and take out the piece of paper that the girl is reading. The paper has your fortune, Good Fortune, Bad Fortune or Average Fortune. If you have bad fortune the piece of paper must be left behind at the temple, usually tied to a “fortune post” oe rack and even sometimes a nearby tree.

P.S. Apologies for the errors you might be experiencing with this site. My hosting provider is looking into the issue.
