In amongst the gravestones of Okunoin there are many small buddah which we believed to be dedications to lost children. At some points in the vast forest graveyard hundreds of tiny buddahs can be found, sometimes stacked into huge pyramids each with a unique face. More of those faces in the coming days but first this pair of “brothers”. Many of the statues are dressed in hats or garments which bring surprising splashes of colour to the ancient graveyard.
