California 2012, Yosemite Park. Tunnel View provides one of the most famous views of Yosemite Valley. From here you can see El Capitan and Bridalveil Fall, with Half Dome in the background. This viewpoint is at the east end of the Wawona Tunnel along the Wawona Road (Highway 41).
The family were in the RV watching behind the wall of gear laden photo geeks. Me an about 20 others were set up with our tripods waiting and hoping for something good to happen, it did and it was magical. The light came slowly from the left and rose up across the valley and the falls over the course of about 20 minutes. The scene was constantly changing and ended up as you see it here. It was hard to know when to leave just in case you missed something spectacular. Eventually when almost pitch black the army of happy photo geeks began to disperse after showing off their trophies on their preview screens to all around. They may have been there for hours but judging by the shouts of “but we’re hungry” the kids hadn’t eaten in 4 days, their torture couldn’t go on, it was time to get to the camp site.
