The beauty of decay… I have always loved how things naturally decay, particularly those things that go unnoticed. These days we try so hard to make things that don’t decay in any way. Floors that don’t wear out, windows that don’t need painting, clothes that don’t fade etc. But the randomness of wear and decay is natural beauty on its own.
These fire hydrant signs in the UK (which mark the location and distance of the water main for the fire services) are now being replaced with new ones made of plastic, no decay, no rust, no patina. When you see a metal one, study its unexpected beauty before they disappear forever.
