I discovered two interesting things about thumbnail file preview in Windows Explorer today.
The first is the bad news. Photoshop CS has stopped support for thumbnail previewing in Windows Explorer. So unless you have upgraded from v7.x to v8.x (CS) PSD thumbnails will not be visible. Here is the extract from the read me file... "Photoshop CS no longer provides thumbnail icons of .psd files through operating system folder windows. Please use the File Browser to view your .psd thumbnail files." loosing this functionality on my new machine is a real pain!
Now for the good news... it?s possible to allow RAW file thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer with a FREE utility called dpMagic Community Edition. now I don?t need to shoot in RAW+JPG (small) simultaneously just to get an explorer preview of the file. (that is unless I can find some other reason to shoot RAW+JPEG, there must be a few more.
UPDATE: Photoshop CS not displaying PSD thumbnails FIXED
I discovered what the missing DLL is. I then discovered that psicon.dll is downloadable from DLL Dump and finally I discovered where to place the file to make thumbnails magically reappear! C:Program FilesCommon FilesAdobeShell
Hey presto... they are back!!!!
